Battery Hidden in Truck Cabin Discovered at Belarusian Customs. Lithuanian Carrier May Lose the Vehicle

A hidden battery was discovered by Belarusian customs officers in the air duct of a truck cabin arriving from Lithuania. The find became grounds for seizing the goods and the tractor unit itself, which may be confiscated by court decision, the State Customs Committee reported.

The incident occurred at the Benyakoni checkpoint, where a DAF truck arrived from Lithuania. The driver was a 26-year-old Belarusian citizen. During inspection, the vehicle was directed for an in-depth examination using an inspection and scanning complex.

On the scan image, specialists noticed an unusual darkening in the cabin structure. After dismantling the air duct, a battery hidden from customs control was found inside.

Pending a court ruling, both the battery and the 2017 tractor unit have been seized as instruments of the offence. The total estimated value of the seized property is about 200,000 roubles.

An administrative process has been initiated under Part 2 of Article 15.1 of the Belarus Administrative Code for attempting to move goods across the border using a hiding place.
