Passengers on Minsk’s surface public transport may be able to pay fares by bank card by the end of this year or the beginning of next year. This was stated in an interview with Belarusian television by Yury Supranovich, director of the Capital Transport and Communications state enterprise. For now, this option is available only on pilot routes.
“Work is currently underway to equip surface transport with terminals that allow payment by bank card. We have two pilot routes — trolleybus route No. 1 and bus route No. 1 — that are currently using this banking system. I am confident that by the end of this year, or at the latest at the beginning of next year, all Minsktrans vehicles will be equipped with the appropriate system, and passengers will be able to fully use this option to pay fares by bank card”, he said.
The pilot project has been running since last year. Earlier, Belarusbank, which provides the terminals, said it expected the expansion of bank card payments this year.
Passengers have already been able to pay fares by bank card in the Minsk metro for several years.
