Detentions in the “Hajun case” continue in Belarus. This week, human rights defenders learned of another detention in Navapolatsk.
Details about the detainee’s identity and the circumstances of the persecution have not yet been disclosed, so it is too early to speak of specific charges, the human rights center “Viasna” writes.
Human rights defenders note that detentions are taking place in different regions of Belarus. As of June 2026, at least 200 people convicted in the case were known to have been identified, although the actual number of people involved is significantly higher.
Initially, detainees were charged with “facilitating extremist activity” under Article 361-4 of the Criminal Code. People were given various punishments — from “home confinement” to actual prison terms. There have also been known cases of pressure on detainees and attempts to force them to “buy their way out” of criminal prosecution through so-called “voluntary donations” to state institutions.
“Belarusian Hajun” is an OSINT monitoring project tracking the military activity of Russian and Belarusian troops. The monitoring group was established before the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war by activist Anton Matolka. In early February 2025, security forces gained access to a chat with the project’s bot. The project subsequently announced that it was ceasing operations.
