Ammonia Leak Occurs at Homiel Chemical Plant

An ammonia leak occurred at the Homiel Chemical Plant overnight. According to the Emergency Situations Ministry, the leak occurred at an open storage facility. About 50 kilograms of ammonia escaped.

“Rescuers stopped the release of the substance by closing a valve,” the ministry added.

Measures were taken to suppress the vapors and neutralize the ammonia. As a result, no exceedance of the maximum permissible concentration of ammonia vapors in the air was recorded.

No one was injured. The cause of the incident is being investigated.
