Head of the Human Rights Center Viasna Ales Bialiatski and legal adviser to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya Leanid Marozau met with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk. The meeting took place in Geneva on March 12.
The parties discussed the human rights situation in Belarus, including the condition of political prisoners and the role of international mechanisms in protecting fundamental rights and freedoms, the Office of Tsikhanouskaya reported.
Bialiatski stressed the need for constant attention from the international community to the situation in Belarus. Marozau noted the importance of human rights monitoring mechanisms in Belarus within the UN system.
