Under a decision by the Belarusian government, every former prisoner of Nazi concentration camps will receive a one-time payment of 1,500 rubles for Victory Day. Ceremonial presentations will take place from May 4 to 8, 2026, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection press service said.
According to the ministry, about 5,000 former prisoners of fascism live in Belarus.
In addition to the one-time payment, former prisoners receive a monthly supplement to their pension equal to 100% of the minimum old-age pension — 124 rubles in April 2026. For people over the age of 80, the monthly supplement, including age-related bonuses, amounts to 310 rubles. Time spent in concentration camps and ghettos is counted double when calculating pensions.
Since May 2025, social guarantees for this category of citizens have been expanded: former prisoners have gained the right to free medicines, spa treatment, dental prosthetics and repairs, priority service in medical institutions, as well as transport and cultural institution benefits.
April 11 marks the International Day of Liberation of Prisoners of Nazi Concentration Camps. It was established in memory of the international uprising in Buchenwald. On that day in 1945, prisoners seized the concentration camp and held it until the arrival of Allied forces.
