On October 27, a session of the Minsk Forum dedicated to the challenges Belarusians face in obtaining legal status and documents in European countries was held in Brussels. The forum, organised by the German-Belarusian Society with the support of Germany’s Foreign Ministry, took place at the Mission of Democratic Belarus in Brussels, the United Transitional Cabinet reported.

Participants included representatives of the European External Action Service, the European Commission and the Council of Europe, diplomats from EU member states, as well as experts from the United Transitional Cabinet, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya’s Office, the Coordination Council, the Belarusian People’s Embassies and Belarusian civil society organisations.

The participants discussed the implementation of the Luxembourg decisions, practices for legalising the status of Belarusian citizens in various European countries, and the problems faced by Belarusians forced to leave their country. Possible ways to address these issues were also considered, taking into account the specific circumstances of Belarusian migrants.

The Belarusian side presented its proposals to experts from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Migration and Home Affairs.

The United Transitional Cabinet said it would continue coordinating efforts to mitigate the consequences of repression and cross-border threats posed by the Belarusian authorities against Belarusian citizens abroad.
