They will be the largest exercises to date in the country focused on deploying NATO’s multinational brigade forces, the Latvian Ministry of Defense reports.
The maneuvers will continue until November 8. Units will practice long-distance redeployment, logistics, command and communications, as well as cooperation with Latvia’s National Armed Forces. The brigade also announced the exercises on its official X account on October 26.
Until November 2, military personnel and equipment will be transported by road and rail from the Ādaži and Ceri bases to exercise locations in eastern Latvia. Activities are planned in the municipalities of Ogre, Jēkabpils, Aizkraukle, Daugavpils, Alūksne, Balvi, Gulbene, Madona, Rēzekne and Augšdaugava, as well as in the city of Rēzekne.
According to brigade commander Colonel David Brassard, the exercises will test the ability to deploy combat-ready forces over long distances, sustain their operations in the field, and maintain effective command and communications.
He emphasized that Latvia’s defense depends on the ability to operate beyond military bases, cooperate with allies, and maintain communications between dispersed units.
Residents have been warned of increased military vehicle traffic and possible brief delays on certain sections of roads. The units will receive support from CH-146 Griffon helicopters operated by the Canadian Armed Forces.
From November 4 to 8, military personnel will restore the areas used during the exercises and return to their bases.
