The information infrastructure of the Interior Ministry is expanding, increasing the risk of cyberattacks. Interior Minister Ivan Kubrakou made the statement at a meeting of the ministry’s board.

“I would like to note that the significant growth in the infrastructure maintained by the Interior Ministry has increased the risk of cyberattacks. Therefore, the set of measures we developed on information security, as well as the establishment of cybersecurity centres within the ministry, have helped meet the requirements of state policy in this area and served as a trigger for preventing significant cyberattacks against departmental information systems and the loss of data,” he said.

According to him, there has been an increase in “external destructive pressure on the Interior Ministry’s infrastructure.” The number of “threats from external sources” has risen tenfold.

As noted by Uladzimir Zaitsau, deputy head of the Interior Ministry’s Department of Finance and Logistics responsible for informatization, communications and information security, particular attention is being paid to maintaining confidentiality, protecting personal data, and ensuring the resilience and reliable operation of departmental resources.

“Information security is currently maintained at the required level, creating the necessary conditions for the internal affairs bodies and the Interior Ministry’s internal troops to carry out their assigned tasks,” he said.
