Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke at Luxembourg’s Chamber of Deputies on October 22 during a joint meeting with parliamentary leaders and the Committee on Foreign Affairs. The parties discussed the release of political prisoners, assistance to Belarusians affected by repression, and Belarus’s European future.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Speaker André Bauler, head of the “For a Democratic Belarus” group Paul Galles, and members of several political parties.

The main topics of discussion included the release of political prisoners, assistance to victims of repression, resolving issues related to documents, legal status and education for Belarusians abroad, and support for the Belarusian language and culture. Participants also discussed Belarus’s European future and assistance to Ukraine.

Tsikhanouskaya proposed holding a parliamentary roundtable in Luxembourg in 2027 on implementing the “Luxembourg Decisions.” She also called for consideration to be given to organizing internships for young Belarusians in the country’s parliament.

During her visit, Tsikhanouskaya also took part in the CinEast film festival. She attended a screening of Volia Chajkouskaya’s film “Not Made for Politics” and a discussion titled “Belarus at a Crossroads” with MP Paul Galles. Participants discussed the events of 2020 in Belarus, the role of women in the protests, life in exile, and international support for Belarusian society.

Tsikhanouskaya thanked Luxembourg for its consistent support for Belarusians, including assistance to those facing repression, independent media and civil society, as well as its attention to Belarusian culture.
