At a meeting with Alexei Russkikh, governor of Russia’s Ulyanovsk Region, Aliaksandr Lukashenka put forward an idea for a new “commercial proposal” to US President Donald Trump. This time, Russian President Vladimir Putin is involved in the “scheme.”

Otherwise, we will build it with Gazprom and the Russians and sell the finished products,” Lukashenka said, according to his press service.

Last week, US President Donald Trump posted that a major deal with Belarus on potash supplies was being prepared.

It should be noted that Lukashenka previously spoke about offering the Americans the opportunity to acquire JSC Nedra Nezhin for $3 billion. The company is developing the Nezhin section of the Starobin potash deposit. Its designed production capacity is 2 million tonnes of potash fertilizers per year.

In recent years, Aliaksandr Lukashenka has repeatedly proposed bringing three parties together for major fertilizer production projects. He previously made such a proposal to Algeria and Oman: Algeria would supply phosphate fertilizers, Oman nitrogen fertilizers, and Belarus the potash component.

In early September, he proposed producing compound fertilizers at a meeting with Togo’s Prime Minister Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. The Togolese prime minister recalled that Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou had previously visited his country on an official visit. The Togolese side emphasized that it produces large quantities of phosphate. Lukashenka then promised that the Belarusian side would present its investment proposals for compound fertilizer production during the upcoming visit of Togo’s foreign minister.

Today, during his meeting with Russkikh, Lukashenka also assured the Russian governor that a multi-vector foreign policy does not distance Belarus from Russia.
