“Tea Mixed With Sand” — Tap Water Turns Cloudy In Baraulyany After Power Outage

Water quality deteriorated in Baraulyany, Minsk District, after an emergency power outage. Residents reported cloudy water resembling tea mixed with sand, Pristalica.by reports.

The outage occurred overnight on September 26 and lasted about 23 minutes. It affected all five wells and three pumping stations operated by Minsk District Vodokanal. Leskauka and Valiaryanava were also left without electricity. After the pumping stations were restarted, sediment was stirred up in the system, causing water in some homes to become cloudy and take on a brownish tint.

Specialists are now flushing the water supply networks. According to Dzmitry Drozd, director of State Enterprise “Minsk District Vodokanal”, two emergency crews have been working at the affected sites since 12:17 a.m. and are continuing to flush the water mains until the water runs clear. The water in the reservoirs of pumping station No. 2 meets the required standards, with about 500 cubic meters in reserve. According to Drozd, the replenishment rate exceeds consumption, so there is no risk of a complete interruption of the water supply.

Drinking water is being delivered to residents in the affected areas. Since 9 a.m., a water tanker has been operating in Barawlyany. Five water distribution points with one-tonne containers have also been set up.
