Belarusian Information Ministry Sees Double Standards in Latvia’s Ban on Radio Belarus

The Belarusian Information Ministry strongly condemned Latvia’s ban on the distribution of the Radio Belarus program.

The decision to impose the ban was made by Latvia’s National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP). The Latvian regulator said the radio station had broadcast one-sided and biased information about Russia’s war against Ukraine, justified Russian military aggression and published material in support of the Aliaksandr Lukashenka regime, while the station’s promotional materials discredited Latvian state institutions.

The Belarusian Information Ministry described the Latvian authorities’ actions as censorship and an attempt to prevent the spread of “objective information.”

“The accusations made by NEPLP against the Belarusian radio station, formulated in the worst traditions of a double-standard policy, appear to be an undisguised desire by the Latvian authorities to prevent the spread of objective and reliable information.

It is obvious that imposing censorship on media outlets deemed undesirable, including foreign ones, has become the hallmark of the Latvian authorities’ work,” the Information Ministry said in a statement.
