The Office of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya has named three main goals of her participation in the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York. They include holding a high-level event with foreign ministers on Belarus, establishing contacts with new politicians and representatives of other countries, as well as “corridor diplomacy.”

One of the main topics that the democratic forces leader’s team intends to promote is Belarus in the context of regional and global security. Tsikhanouskaya’s Office considers it important that, when discussing possible ways to end the war in Ukraine, Belarus should also remain on the international agenda and be considered as part of regional security issues.

“It is important for us that Belarus does not become a kind of ‘consolation prize’ and that, when seeking ways to end the war in Ukraine, the Belarusian issue also remains on the agenda,” Tsikhanouskaya’s Office said.

The most important issue that the delegation plans to raise with international partners is described as the need to seriously include Belarus in the regional security system.

“So that Belarus is not forgotten in the broader geopolitical context and the Belarusian issue is not viewed exclusively through the prism of the humanitarian situation. It is also important to talk about Belarus’s future, the transition of power, democratization of the country and its place in regional security,” the Office said.
