He chose an unusual means of transport for the operation — a combine harvester.
According to the Podlaskie Border Guard unit, officers from the Kuźnica outpost spotted an “object” dropping “packages” and immediately went to the scene.
On the premises where the package had fallen from the sky, the man was hiding boxes of cigarettes in his combine harvester. A total of 1,500 packs of cigarettes without Polish excise stamps were seized from him.
The man has been charged and will remain under police supervision and is prohibited from leaving the country. He is also required to pay 15,000 zlotys as security for a possible penalty.
Since the beginning of this year, border guards in the Podlaskie Voivodeship have intercepted cigarette smuggling by air worth a total of 6.9 million zlotys and detained 43 people.
