By decree of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, 224 foreign nationals and stateless persons, including 16 children, have obtained Belarusian citizenship. Some applicants were denied citizenship due to violations of Belarusian law.
Those who received Belarusian citizenship came from 17 countries, including Armenia, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Moldova, Russia, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. The majority arrived from Ukraine.
“The individuals who have obtained Belarusian citizenship are employed in various sectors of the economy. Among them are workers in education and services, employees of the agro-industrial complex, the construction sector, and other professions. In addition, the new citizens of Belarus include a doctor of sciences and a candidate of sciences who teach at one of the country’s leading universities,” Lukashenka’s press service said.
