The Prosecutor General’s Office reported on the situation involving deaths and injuries on railway tracks in Belarus. In the first six months of 2026, 26 cases of people being injured by rolling stock were registered in the country. Fifteen people were killed, including a minor and two pensioners. The main causes of the tragedies are said to be personal negligence and disregard for safety rules on railway tracks. In many cases, alcohol intoxication aggravates the situation.
During a short period in July, train drivers had to make emergency stops 17 times to avoid hitting people who were on the tracks. In one case, it was not possible to prevent a person’s death.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reported several incidents. On the evening of July 10, at Baranavichy-Palieski station, a driver made an emergency stop in front of a woman who was lying on the tracks. The following morning, a similar situation occurred on the Bahdanau — Valozhyn section, when emergency braking prevented a collision with a man lying on the main track.
On July 17, on the Sviatlahorsk — na-Biarezine section, a train hit a man who was lying between the rails. After the train stopped, he got out from under the carriage on his own and fled. On July 21, on the Smaliavichy — Haradzishcha section, the driver made an emergency stop to avoid hitting a man sitting on the edge of the platform at the Slabada stopping point.
Another incident occurred at Zhlobin station. A man was crossing the tracks on an electric scooter at a pedestrian crossing in front of a moving train, forcing the driver to make an emergency stop.
The internal affairs authorities are conducting checks into all the incidents. The actions of the offenders are to be given a legal assessment.
The Prosecutor General’s Office reminded that violating the rules for crossing railway tracks or being on them in places not designated for that purpose is punishable by a fine of up to two basic units.
