Sri Lanka was visited by 10,000 Belarusian tourists over the past year. This was reported by the Belarusian Transport Ministry following a meeting between Transport Minister Aliaksei Liakhnovich and his Sri Lankan counterpart Bimal Rathnayake.
“Sri Lanka is one of the most popular tourist destinations. As Sri Lankan Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake informed us, around 10,000 Belarusian tourists visited the country in 2025, and in order to strengthen tourism ties he proposed launching regular flights,” the ministry’s press service said.
The two sides expressed mutual interest in further developing air links. At present, Belavia together with tour operators only operates charter flights to Sri Lanka.
The ministers also discussed the training of specialists for the transport sector at Belarusian universities, from higher education programmes to advanced training courses.
