Lithuania Welcomes U.S. Efforts to Reduce Tensions in the Region

Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius met with U.S. President’s Special Envoy John Coale on September 16 and said that U.S. engagement with Belarus had helped reduce tensions in the region.

I met with President Trump’s Special Envoy John Coale and thanked him for U.S. diplomatic engagement with Belarus. It has helped secure the release of political prisoners & contributed to reducing hybrid threats & regional tensions. The Lithuanian Government supports these U.S. efforts.,” Sinkevičius said.

John Coale was in Belarus on September 15-16. As a result of his talks with Aliaksandr Lukashenka, 25 Belarusian political prisoners were released. They were brought from Belarus to Poland. In response to the releases, the United States is lifting sanctions on Lakokraska and Bellesbumprom. Coale also said that the release of political prisoners and the lifting of sanctions would continue.
