Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned airlines that Russian airspace is no longer safe because of Ukrainian drones.
“Today we want to warn every airline that uses Russian airspace, every insurer, and everyone who continues to use key Russian airports: Russian skies are becoming completely unsafe. Ukraine is not threatening civil aviation as such — not a single civilian aircraft. It’s simply that there will be so many drones in Russia’s skies that this must be taken into account. Although the Russian authorities are not reporting this properly, Russian airspace will de facto be closed: the war unleashed by Russia is closing its skies,” Zelenskyy said in a video address on Sept. 1.
Zelenskyy said civil aviation has no place among drones.
“We in Ukraine do not want to allow innocent people to be killed. Therefore, we warn our partners: there are no more safe moments in Russia’s skies,” the Ukrainian president said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry and other agencies will provide international organizations with all the necessary information about the dangers in Russian airspace.
