Zelenskyy Says Russia Carried Out 76 Attacks on Ukraine’s Energy Sector During “Truce” Week

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that in the week since Donald Trump announced an “energy truce”, Russia had attacked Ukraine’s energy and oil and gas sectors 76 times. According to Zelenskyy, over the past week Russian forces had also launched nearly 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs and 66 missiles at Ukraine.

“Since the US president announced an energy truce a week ago, Russia has already carried out 76 targeted attacks on Ukraine’s energy and oil and gas sectors. Just last night, substations in Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi and Odesa regions were targeted.

Tens of thousands of families remain without electricity. Energy workers and repair crews are working virtually around the clock to restore supplies. The Russians also attacked residential buildings in our regions overnight. So far, 12 people have been reported injured, including two children. Two people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. This morning, an agricultural facility in Volyn was struck. All necessary services are working at the scene,” the Ukrainian leader wrote.

The Ukrainian president said energy facilities remained the main targets of Russian attacks and that Russia was seeking to cause widespread power outages.

“The United States must also see that Russia is not taking steps toward peace in response to sanctions being lifted or agreements being concluded. On the contrary, every signal that there is an opportunity to make money is taken by the Russians as proof that their bet on war is working and that they can continue fighting. It is this position of Russia that is prolonging the war, not Ukraine’s rightful defense of itself. Pressure must be put on Russia to give peace a chance,” Zelenskyy urged.
