Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law regulating the status of foreign nationals and stateless persons serving under contract in Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the Verkhovna Rada said.
Foreigners and stateless persons defending Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty will be considered to be staying in Ukraine legally provided they obtain a temporary residence permit. The permit will be issued for the duration of the contract and will remain valid for six months after the contract ends. This will allow foreigners to access banking, notarial, medical, and other social services.
The law also extends statutory guarantees in the field of medical care and medical services to foreign servicemen and stateless persons. Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers will, within three months, determine the specifics of providing medical care to foreigners serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the State Special Transport Service of Ukraine, and the National Guard.
The law enters into force three months after its publication.
