Zelensky Expects Visit of American Negotiators at the Turn of Spring and Summer

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expects American negotiators to visit Kyiv in the coming weeks. He hopes the visit will help intensify diplomatic efforts toward a ceasefire. Today, Zelensky received a report from National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, who recently visited the United States.

“Today I received a report from Rustem Umerov following his meetings in the United States. The talks were substantive. We are coordinating the schedule of necessary visits and expect representatives of the American president in Kyiv at the turn of spring and summer. We hope that this time it will be possible to implement what was planned and intensify diplomacy,” the Ukrainian president said.

It should be recalled that this year negotiations in a trilateral format involving Ukraine, Russia, and the United States began. However, the process was effectively put on hold following the start of the U.S. and Israeli operation against Iran. Volodymyr Zelensky had previously spoken about agreements with the American side that envisaged a visit by U.S. negotiators first to Kyiv and then to Moscow. That plan has not yet been implemented.

“We also discussed humanitarian issues, including the continuation of prisoner-of-war exchanges. We are refining the details of agreements that could guarantee security. It is important that there is constructive engagement, and we need to move toward peace by strengthening Ukraine and bilateral relations with America,” Zelensky added.
