The decision was made by the Council of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iihf.com\/en\/news\/76810\/iihf_statement_on_belarus_and_russia\">statement<\/a> published on the organisation&#8217;s website. It concerns Belarus&#8217;s under-20 national team and senior men&#8217;s national team.<\/p>\n<p>The decision follows a partial ruling by the IIHF Disciplinary Committee in favour of an appeal filed by the Belarusian Ice Hockey Federation against decisions made by the IIHF Council on July 27, 2026. In its ruling, the disciplinary body confirmed that it had no legal grounds to order Belarus&#8217;s immediate reinstatement in international competitions.<\/p>\n<p>The IIHF explained that the decision took into account the organisational and sporting arrangements for both championships that had already been approved. These include tournament formats, match schedules, ticket sales and operational planning.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;Having considered these circumstances, the Council determined that Belarusian national teams will not participate in these two Championships in the 2027 season,&#8221;<\/i> the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>The federation also commented on the participation of Russian national teams in international competitions. The IIHF said it continued to disagree with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruling concerning Russia&#8217;s participation in championships under the federation&#8217;s jurisdiction. Nevertheless, the organisation is taking the necessary steps to comply with the court&#8217;s decision.<\/p>\n<p>The IIHF is currently assessing the conditions required to ensure the safe staging of championships, the organisation&#8217;s financial stability and the long-term development of international ice hockey.<\/p>\n<p>The federation is also considering the possibility of holding talks with all interested national ice hockey associations, including the Russian Ice Hockey Federation, to seek a further resolution of the issue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Belarusian national ice hockey teams will not take part in the 2027 World Junior and Men&#8217;s World Championships.
