She was found guilty of illegally exporting avionics and other aviation equipment from the United States to Russia. The court sentenced her to 12 months and one day in prison. She is to be deported after serving her sentence.<\/p>\n<p>Leonova pleaded guilty on May 20. The court has now handed down its sentence.<\/p>\n<p>She was detained in France in September 2024 and extradited to the United States in November 2025.<\/p>\n<p>According to the indictment, after the start of Russia\u2019s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Leonova, with the assistance of accomplices based in the United States, arranged the illegal purchase and export to Russia of aviation equipment and other components in May 2022. The goods were intended for private aircraft operated by a company that was Leonova\u2019s former employer and had been placed on the US Department of Commerce\u2019s sanctions list.<\/p>\n<p>Leonova and her accomplices allegedly purchased aircraft parts from US suppliers and then shipped them to Russia through intermediary companies registered in Armenia, the Maldives and other countries without obtaining the required export licences.
