The decree was signed today. It also provides for Karziuk&#8217;s retirement from the internal affairs bodies on age grounds.<\/p>\n<p>Upon retirement, he retains the right to wear the prescribed uniform and insignia, Lukashenka&#8217;s press service <a href=\"https:\/\/t.me\/pul_1\/23225\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Karziuk had served in the internal affairs bodies since 1993, beginning his career as a traffic police inspector. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs in October 2021. Before that, he headed the Main Directorate of the State Traffic Inspectorate.<\/p>\n<p>On December 2, 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/283721-ssha-rasshirili-sankcii-protiv-belarusi-dobavleno-12-predprijatij-i-20-chelovek\/\">Karziuk was added to the US sanctions list<\/a>. The formal basis was his status as an official of the Belarusian government. He was also added to Canada&#8217;s sanctions list on the same day.<\/p>\n<p>In its official justification for the sanctions, the US Treasury Department <a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/jy0512\">described<\/a> Karziuk as a close associate of <strong>Viktar<\/strong> and <strong>Dzmitry Lukashenka<\/strong>.
