To do so, Khürelsükh needs to get hands-on experience with Belarusian technologies.

Opening a meeting with the Mongolian president in a restricted format, Lukashenka noted that he had spent a full three hours talking with him yesterday after his arrival.

“Yesterday, we did not waste any time and spent three hours discussing the current state of our relations and trying to draw up a roadmap for our cooperation. In short, we agreed that we need to start cooperating in earnest. And to build a solid structure, we need a strong foundation.

And we decided that we should start with two or three — well, three is a sacred number for us, Ukhnaagiin, as you know well — three good, concrete projects that would form the basis of our cooperation. Projects that people would feel the impact of, both in Ulaanbaatar and here in Minsk, so that people understand that we are serious politicians and are serious about cooperation,” Lukashenka said, according to his press service.

He said that the current visit should be used to draw up a cooperation plan.

“This visit will be historic in the sense that we will draw up a plan for our cooperation. In other words, we will complete what we started two years ago in Ulaanbaatar,” he continued.

Lukashenka drew the Mongolian president’s attention to Belarus’s advanced and powerful technologies.

“We agreed that if you find something in this range of technologies and areas of our development that you like and that would be useful for our friendly country, we are ready to cooperate in that area and identify the two or three projects I mentioned. Yesterday, we agreed in a friendly spirit that you can try out and get hands-on experience with anything in Belarus that interests you, and make the appropriate decision if you like it.

You should understand that all doors are open to you here. Please, look around, draw your conclusions and adopt what you find useful. We will help and facilitate your efforts to implement all your planned programmes and fulfil the promises you made during Mongolia’s most recent election campaign,” Lukashenka said.

He also assured his counterpart that all commitments under the projects would be fulfilled on time.

“We are people who honour our commitments — we will fulfil our obligations on time and within the agreed deadlines. We very much hope that our Mongolian friends will act in the same way. In fulfilling our part of the commitments, we will not cite complications or difficulties as excuses. That is what we are here for: to overcome difficulties and challenges. They have always existed and always will. Things may become even more difficult than they are now. Therefore, we must overcome these difficulties, move forward and honour our agreements,” he concluded.

Khürelsükh, in turn, agreed with Lukashenka.

“I fully agree with and support your proposal that we should first implement two or three concrete projects that will deliver tangible results. For our part, we are ready to consider this proposal and take further steps,” he said.

The Mongolian president added that he had visited the Belarusian Emergency Situations Ministry’s life safety training centre and had also had an opportunity to examine examples of machinery.

“They are of the highest standard and quality. The tractors and combine harvesters we saw meet our requirements for operating conditions in Mongolia,” he said, adding that he saw opportunities to establish a joint centre in Mongolia for tractor assembly, sales and servicing.

According to Belarusian Industry Minister Andrei Kuzniatsou, the machinery in question could include mining, agricultural and passenger transport equipment.

“Our cooperation with Mongolia is growing at a positive rate, around 110%, but that is not enough. We have set a target of at least 150%, and there are grounds for achieving it. We worked closely with our Mongolian colleagues over the two days of the visit.

Our main focus is on mechanical engineering, particularly agricultural machinery. The relevant contracts have been signed, and we are resolving payment issues. Agreements have been reached on supplies of mining and passenger transport equipment,” he said on the sidelines of the talks.

According to Kuzniatsou, supplies of machinery from MTZ and Gomselmash are also being discussed. Contracts have been signed, and the products are ready for shipment. The two sides are also discussing ways to develop cooperation in light industry.

Updated at 12:30

During expanded-format talks, Lukashenka reaffirmed the agreements on supplies of Belarusian machinery.

“In June, our governments agreed on new supplies of Belarusian machinery. The pilot batch includes tractors, potato and stone harvesters, and grain dryers. It is important that this machinery reaches Mongolian consumers without being held up by various problems, whether banking or bureaucratic,” he said.

Lukashenka also said that work on the dairy farm complex construction project needed to be accelerated. Its implementation would advance cooperation in breeding livestock as well.

In addition, he said, Belarus and Mongolia were discussing the resumption of supplies of Belarusian engineering products. Minsk wants to significantly expand the presence of its mining equipment in Mongolia.

Lukashenka also noted that Belarus was looking forward to seeing Mongolian cashmere, leather and wool products, as well as other goods, on shop shelves, as tariffs on these products have been eliminated under the agreement between Mongolia and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka has proposed that Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khürelsükh select two or three projects that could serve as the foundation for Belarusian-Mongolian cooperation.
