Six people have been detained in Lithuania on suspicion of smuggling Belarusian cigarettes. The operation took place on October 22, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Four men were detained near a private house in the city of K\u0117dainiai. Two of them had brought boxes of Belarusian cigarettes in a car with Lithuanian license plates. The other two were helping unload the boxes from the vehicle. According to preliminary information, the cigarettes had been transported from Belarus using weather balloons.<\/p>\n

During a search of the house, additional boxes of cigarettes were found. Border guards believe these had also been transported from Belarus using balloons. A white powder wrapped in a banknote was also found in the house. The substance was sent for examination.<\/p>\n

Two more men were detained on another street in the same city. They are suspected of escorting the smuggled cargo.<\/p>\n

All six men were remanded in custody.<\/p>\n
