By the end of 2026, the capital plans to install 50 such containers, and in 2027 they are expected to appear in all districts of the city. This was announced on October 22 by Erwin Kurtbedzinau, CEO of Remondis Minsk, Minsk-Novosti reports.

By the end of the year, containers will be installed in the Maskouski, Frunzenski and Kastrychnitski districts. Residents will be able to deposit clothes, towels, blankets, bed linen and shoes. Items must be clean and dry. Textiles must be placed in plastic bags before being deposited, while shoes must be packaged separately. This will protect the textiles from contamination during transportation and allow them to be reused and recycled.

“The containers will be placed in areas with high foot traffic, but separately from household waste collection sites, so that textiles do not mix with household rubbish,” Kurtbedzinau explained.

The collected textiles will be transported in dedicated vehicles rather than garbage trucks. They will then be taken to a specialized sorting line, where fabrics will be separated by type and fiber composition. The company also plans to start producing wiping rags from items unsuitable for reuse. The remaining materials will be processed into RDF fuel.

“This will make textile collection virtually waste-free,” the head of Remondis Minsk said.

The containers have so far been installed at four locations:

33 Kasmanautau Street;

14 Lidskaya Street;

17 Kuntsaushchyna Street;

156 Prytytskaha Street.

The number of containers is expected to increase every week. They can be identified by their design featuring a four-hole button.

The first containers for separate textile collection were installed in Minsk this week.
