Knowing that amounts exceeding $10,000 must be declared, the couple decided to circumvent the restriction by claiming that each of them was carrying an amount just below that threshold.<\/p>\n<p><i>&#8220;During a customs inspection, officers found an additional $3,500 in the woman&#8217;s bag and $2,400 in the man&#8217;s bag. The money had been wrapped in tissues and packed in bags,&#8221;<\/i> the statement said.<\/p>\n<p>Administrative proceedings have been initiated.
