St. Petersburg and the surrounding Leningrad Region came under a drone attack overnight on October 18. St. Petersburg Governor Alexander Beglov<\/strong> reported fires in four districts of the city and at the St. Petersburg Oil Terminal. According to ASTRA, a VK data center and a nearby electrical substation were also attacked.<\/p>\n

As Beglov stated<\/a>, emergency services are fighting fires at civilian infrastructure facilities in the Nevsky, Krasnoselsky, Krasnogvardeysky and Moskovsky districts, as well as at the oil terminal. He did not specify which facilities were burning in the four districts.<\/p>\n

According to the governor, there were no casualties. Operations at Pulkovo Airport have been restricted, and mobile internet disruptions are possible in the city. Beglov also reported that air defenses were operating and said he was personally heading the emergency response headquarters.<\/p>\n

Attack on VK Data Center<\/h2>\n

ASTRA reported<\/a> that its OSINT expert had geolocated footage submitted by readers to a VK data center and the nearby Vostochnaya electrical substation. Both facilities are located in the village of Novosergievka in the Vsevolozhsky District of Leningrad Region, near the administrative boundary of St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

According to the outlet, parts of the city experienced power outages. ASTRA also reported complaints from users about major disruptions to VKontakte and related services. The extent of the power outages and service disruptions has not been independently confirmed.<\/p>\n

VK’s press service, quoted by ASTRA, confirmed the attack on the data center but said its services remained available:<\/p>\n

“A UAV attack was carried out against a VK data center in Leningrad Region. VK services remain available to users as normal.”<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Drone Reportedly Hits Bridge<\/h2>\n

The Exilenova+ Telegram channel reported<\/a> that a drone had struck the cable-stayed bridge over the Korabelny Fairway in St. Petersburg.<\/p>\n

The bridge is part of the Western High-Speed Diameter, a toll highway connecting the southern and northern parts of the city. The extent of any damage remains unknown. Beglov’s statement cited above made no mention of a strike on the bridge.<\/p>\n

Beglov blamed Ukraine for the overnight attack. Ukrainian authorities have not yet commented on the attack.<\/p>\n
