The troops are reinforcing border security and assisting Lithuanian border guards.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, Lithuania\u2019s Ministry of the Interior, which oversees the border guard service, asked the Ministry of National Defence to extend the reinforcement.<\/p>\n<p>The contingent of Lithuanian troops deployed on the border with Russia remains small. Around 100 personnel are assisting border guards.
