We established not simply the delivery of cargo to the port, but a technology for the full turnaround of specialized railcars: after unloading the potash, the rolling stock is loaded on its return trip with raw materials from the Murmansk Region. This reduces non-revenue mileage, increases the economic efficiency of transportation and confirms that the Murmansk route is ready for sustainable work with large export flows,” he added.

The construction of a Belarusian terminal in Murmansk continues to face the problem of the railway’s freight capacity.

“While this strategic task is being addressed, we need to consider the possibility of using the existing infrastructure,” said Artyom Kuksa, first deputy minister for the development of the Arctic and the economy of the Murmansk Region.

Pre-project preparations for the initiative are currently under way.
