The Coordination Council will hold an open hearing on the death penalty today.<\/p>\n

World Day Against the Death Penalty is observed on October 10. The Coordination Council\u2019s event is timed to coincide with the occasion.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe hearings, organized at the initiative of Mikita Semianenka from the \u2018Latushka Coalition and For Freedom Movement\u2019 faction, will allow the Coordination Council to join the discussion in a timely manner, make the Belarusian case more visible and formulate its own position based on professional expertise,\u201d<\/em> the Coordination Council said.<\/p>\n

The hearings will feature Andrei Paluda<\/strong>, coordinator of the \u201cHuman Rights Defenders Against the Death Penalty in Belarus\u201d campaign, as well as Viasna human rights defender Valiantsin Stefanovich<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following the hearings, the Coordination Council will vote on the resolution \u201cOn the Unconditional and Immediate Abolition of the Death Penalty in Belarus,\u201d a draft of which was proposed by the \u201cLatushka Coalition and For Freedom Movement.\u201d<\/p>\n
