The relevant decree was signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n<p>The decree prohibits individuals from taking more than 1 million Russian rubles (equivalent to $11,850) in cash to Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Legal entities and individual entrepreneurs are prohibited from exporting cash, regardless of the amount.<\/p>\n<p>The restriction does not apply in certain cases. In particular, cash may be exported through designated international airports if the traveler has bank documents confirming that the entire amount was withdrawn from an account. An exception has also been made for legal entities engaged in international transportation. In addition, cash may be exported to support the operations of Russian diplomatic and consular missions.<\/p>\n<p>Violations of the ban will result in the seizure of any amount exceeding 1 million rubles from individuals, and all cash being exported by legal entities and individual entrepreneurs. The government, together with the Central Bank, must approve procedures for recording exported ruble cash within three months.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this summer, Belarusian banks first introduced and then sharply increased fees for accepting cash Russian rubles into accounts held by nonresidents.
