Belarusian customs officers have uncovered a large shipment of hashish at the Kamenny Loh checkpoint on the border with Lithuania.<\/p>\n

A total of 38 kg of the substance was found in a hidden compartment in a truck driven by a Moldovan citizen. The man was traveling from Lithuania in an empty vehicle.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn inspection using a scanning system confirmed customs officers\u2019 suspicions that prohibited substances might be brought into the country in the vehicle. The scan revealed a specially constructed compartment within the vehicle\u2019s structure,\u201d<\/em> the State Customs Committee (SCC) said.<\/p>\n

The compartment was opened during a search. Twenty-two packages containing a dark-colored substance were removed. An examination confirmed that it was hashish.<\/p>\n

\u201cFurther verification measures and urgent investigative actions established that the shipment had been organized by a 54-year-old citizen of the Republic of Belarus.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Grodno Regional Customs Office has opened a criminal case against him under Part 2 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus,\u201d<\/em> the SCC said.<\/p>\n

The statement did not disclose what happened to the driver.<\/p>\n
