Vitsyebsk customs officers uncovered two attempts to bring marijuana into Belarus across the Belarusian-Russian border. In both cases, the substance was detected by sniffer dogs.<\/p>\n

According to the State Customs Committee, in the first case, a 32-year-old Belarusian citizen travelling in a Ford Transit minibus attempted to bring marijuana into the country. A package containing the substance, wrapped in foil, was found on a passenger seat.<\/p>\n

In the second case, a 29-year-old Belarusian was transporting marijuana in an Opel Insignia. He had hidden a package inside a deodorant bottle among his personal belongings.<\/p>\n

An examination by specialists from the State Committee for Forensic Examinations in Vitsyebsk region confirmed that the substances found were marijuana.<\/p>\n

Criminal cases have been opened against both men under Part 1 of Article 328-1 of the Criminal Code, concerning the illegal transportation of narcotic drugs across the border. The article carries a penalty of up to seven years in prison.<\/p>\n
