On the third day of the UN General Assembly, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya<\/strong> held dozens of meetings with political leaders, government officials, representatives of international organizations and business leaders. Among them were the president of Romania, the prime minister of Slovenia and a former U.S. president.<\/p>\n

As the Tsikhanouskaya Office reported<\/a>, her meeting with Romanian President Nicu\u0219or Dan<\/strong> focused on support for Belarusians, the release of political prisoners and Belarus\u2019s place on the European agenda. He invited Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya to Bucharest.<\/p>\n

With Slovenian Prime Minister Janez Jan\u0161a<\/strong>, they discussed security issues in Belarus and the region, the Lukashenka regime\u2019s dependence on Russia, the release of political prisoners and support for those who have been freed. Tsikhanouskaya proposed that Slovenia join the International Humanitarian Fund and develop rehabilitation programs for former political prisoners and their families.<\/p>\n

At the Clinton Global Initiative conference, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya spoke about what Belarusians are already preparing for \u2014 future change \u2014 as well as institutions, people, reforms and mechanisms for the transition period.<\/p>\n

Tsikhanouskaya also held a separate meeting with Bill Clinton<\/strong>. Thirty-two years after his historic visit to Belarus, they discussed the changes that had taken place since then, the situation of Belarusians inside the country and the need to maintain international attention on Belarus.<\/p>\n

With former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo<\/strong>, they discussed the lessons of 2020, Belarus\u2019s independence and how the Lukashenka regime has become even more dependent on Russia following the crackdown.<\/p>\n

At the Atlantic Council Global Citizen Awards ceremony, Tsikhanouskaya spoke with heads of state, government representatives and international business leaders about political prisoners, the situation in Belarus and the country\u2019s future opportunities.<\/p>\n
