The Belarusian Investigative Committee reported<\/a> cases in which unidentified individuals use messengers and social media to offer people money to carry out attacks on infrastructure facilities.<\/p>\n

According to the agency, potential perpetrators are sought in themed chats and on social media. The individuals are first approached and attempts are made to gain their trust, after which they are offered money to commit a crime.<\/p>\n

As an example, the Investigative Committee cited an 18-year-old man who was offered money via Telegram to set fire to railway relay cabinets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe perpetrators do not hide the fact that the purpose of such an action in Belarus is to disrupt international logistics with the Russian Federation, as well as to create conditions for a railway disaster and loss of life. The young man immediately reported this to law enforcement agencies,\u201d<\/em> the press release said.<\/p>\n

The agency said it also had information about other \u201crepeated attempts at recruitment,\u201d stating that actions classified under Article 289 of the Belarusian Criminal Code as an act of terrorism constitute especially serious crimes. The article provides, among other penalties, for the exceptional measure of punishment.<\/p>\n
