Notably, in June the EBRD cut its forecast for Belarusian GDP growth by 0.2 percentage points. The bank has therefore returned to the estimate it made in February this year.

The GDP growth forecast for 2027 stands at 1.5%. It remains unchanged.

“Real GDP growth averaged 2.1 per cent year on year in January-July 2026, supported mainly by wage gains, investment and state-backed construction, while weak external demand, sanctions-related logistical constraints, limited export diversification and heavy dependence on Russia continued to weigh on the outlook.

Inflation eased to 4.4 per cent year on year in July 2026, helped by food-price controls and rouble stability, but the underlying inflationary pressures remain as wage growth outpaces improvements in productivity. Real GDP growth is expected to reach 1.3 per cent in 2026 and 1.5 per cent in 2027. Economic sanctions and Belarus’s dependence on the Russian economy remain significant downside risks”, the document says.

Belarusian economic growth slowed to 1.9% in January-August, it was previously reported. The official forecast for Belarus’s socio-economic development calls for GDP to increase by 2.8% this year. International institutions do not share this estimate, although the Eurasian Development Bank and independent Belarusian experts at MacroBy believe the economy could grow by 2-2.5% this year.

In its September forecast, the EBRD cut its estimate for Russian economic growth by 0.3 percentage points. It expects the Russian economy to grow by 0.5% in 2026 and by 0.7% in 2027.

The bank forecasts Ukraine’s GDP to grow by 1.5% this year and 2.5% next year. Its growth estimates for Poland are 3.5% and 2.8%, respectively; for Lithuania, 3% and 2.2%; and for Latvia, 2.4% and 2.1%.

The EBRD region as a whole is expected to grow by 2.5% this year.
