The sanctions have been extended for three years and will remain in effect until September 22, 2029. Previously, the restrictions were extended every six months.<\/p>\n<p>The European Council said in a statement that the existing restrictive measures apply to more than 3,000 individuals and entities and include travel restrictions on individuals, asset freezes and a ban on making funds or other economic resources available to the listed individuals and organisations.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <strong>Alisher Usmanov, Mikhail Fridman, Andrei Falaleev<\/strong> and Redbird Corporate Services Ltd. were removed from the sanctions list.<\/p>\n<p>The sanctions extended by the EU for three years cover not only Russian individuals and entities. The lists also include Belarusian officials and a number of organisations from Belarus.<\/p>\n<p>Latvia opposed the removal of Fridman and Usmanov from the EU sanctions lists. Due to Riga\u2019s position, the written procedure for approving the European Council decision was even suspended. It was eventually completed. Latvia did not exercise its veto power but decided to impose sanctions on the two Russian businessmen at the national level.
