What Was It Like?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>A large-scale participatory performance titled \u201cA Percussion Piece\u201d took place on the evening of September 19 at Amsterdam\u2019s famous NDSM shipyard. People of different nationalities came from various cities to take part in a joint performance in support of prisoners who remain behind bars in Belarus for political reasons.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"be-BY\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-578726\" src=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/photo_2026-09-19_18-23-41-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/photo_2026-09-19_18-23-41-2.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/photo_2026-09-19_18-23-41-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/photo_2026-09-19_18-23-41-2-1200x800.jpg 1200w, https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/photo_2026-09-19_18-23-41-2-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>According to the idea of the project\u2019s author, media artist and curator <strong>Maxim Tyminko<\/strong>, participants registered for the event created a shared soundscape while wearing cardboard masks bearing the faces of real Belarusian political prisoners \u2014 as a symbolic \u201cvoice\u201d of those whom attempts are being made to silence in prisons. The organizers described the action as an artistic statement about human dignity, solidarity and vulnerability.<\/p>\n<p class=\"reforma\" lang=\"be-BY\">We asked one of the performance participants, artist <strong>Andrei Dureika<\/strong>, what the action looked like from inside the \u201csoundscape.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cI was inside, so I don\u2019t know how many participants there were. There weren\u2019t that many spectators, but they weren\u2019t really the target audience. The participants gathered for about two hours, people got acquainted and communicated. Before the action, <strong>Maksim Znak<\/strong> and other former political prisoners spoke. Musicians performed as a warm-up.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>People had different things in their hands. There were all kinds of people. Near me, some were playing drums professionally, creating a rhythm, and everyone else adapted to that rhythm. At one point, I completely lost my sense of time; I thought only half of the performance had passed.
