Moscow and the Moscow region came under a massive drone attack overnight on September 20. According to Russian authorities, two people were killed and another 20 were injured, including three children.<\/p>\n

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin<\/strong> said<\/a> that since yesterday, \u201cmore than 1,600 UAVs have been intercepted at all lines,\u201d including 450 on approach to Moscow. According to him, several drones reached the grounds of the Moscow Oil Refinery, and one struck a residential building. No one was killed in Moscow, the mayor said. Sobyanin called the drone attack the \u201clargest-ever\u201d and said it had been planned with the aim of \u201cdisrupting\u201d the elections to the State Duma being held in Russia.<\/p>\n

Moscow Region Governor Andrey Vorobyov<\/strong> reported<\/a> that between 3:00 and 5:00 a.m., air defense and electronic warfare systems shot down or suppressed 249 UAVs in 17 districts of the region. The attack continued in the morning. The most serious consequences were recorded in the Ramensky District. On Severnoye Highway, a 21-story building caught fire after a UAV fell. Some 400 people, including 70 children, were evacuated, and 20 vehicles were damaged.<\/p>\n

In Sofyino, a drone struck a three-story apartment building on Novaya Street. Six apartments on the third floor were damaged. A 44-year-old woman was killed and five other people were injured, including two children. Another person was killed in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo District. According to Vorobyov, the 74-year-old man was inside a private house that collapsed and caught fire as a result of the attack.<\/p>\n

A total of 20 people required medical assistance. Fifteen people were hospitalized, while six others refused hospitalization after receiving medical care. Three of those injured were children. Two teenagers, aged 14 and 15, were injured in the Ramensky District. Residents of Lyubertsy, Leninsky District, Domodedovo and Kotelniki were also injured.<\/p>\n

Russia\u2019s Defense Ministry said<\/a> that overnight, air defenses intercepted and destroyed 1,110 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones over the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Ryazan, Tula, Kaluga, Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Tambov, Voronezh, Lipetsk, Smolensk, Oryol, Rostov, Volgograd, Saratov and Samara regions, Krasnodar Krai, the Moscow region, annexed Crimea and the Black Sea.<\/p>\n

According to OSINT analysts at Astra<\/a>, one of the targets was the Moscow Oil Refinery in Kapotnya. It is one of Russia\u2019s largest oil refineries. Its annual refining capacity is 11 million tonnes of crude oil. The refinery supplies about 40% of Moscow\u2019s fuel market and 70% of the Moscow region\u2019s demand for gasoline and jet fuel.<\/p>\n

Astra also reported<\/a> an attack on Thermal Power Plant No. 22 in Dzerzhinsky, Moscow Region. TPP-22 is located about two kilometers from the Moscow Oil Refinery and supplies it with process steam, as well as electricity and heat to southeastern Moscow, Dzerzhinsky and part of Lyubertsy District.<\/p>\n

In Sofyino, in the Ramensky municipal district of Moscow Region, the warehouse complex of Sovremennye Skladskie Tekhnologii LLC caught fire<\/a> following the attack.<\/p>\n
