Belarus continues an exercise with troops of the Western Operational Command. As part of the maneuvers, the military practiced building a crossing over the Neman River, the Defense Ministry reported.<\/p>\n

“According to the exercise scenario, a reconnaissance and sabotage group of a simulated enemy established a foothold on the opposite bank, mined the shoreline and attempted to disrupt the advance of the troops. A brigade UAV crew conducted reconnaissance and identified their positions and obstacles. After a landing party disembarked from a boat, a firefight broke out, resulting in the enemy being neutralized,”<\/i> the Defense Ministry\u2019s press service said, describing the scenario for the episode.<\/p>\n

Servicemen of the 557th Engineer Brigade ultimately completed the task. Sappers cleared the bank of mines, divers checked the riverbed, and pontoon units set up a ferry crossing and ensured the transfer of equipment and personnel.<\/p>\n

The Defense Ministry noted that the Neman is 115 meters wide at this section, with a current speed of up to 0.7 meters per second and a depth of up to three meters. The crossing can transport loads weighing up to 100 tonnes.<\/p>\n
