He was taken into custody in the courtroom after the verdict was announced. <a href=\"https:\/\/spring96.org\/be\/news\/121100\">Viasna reports<\/a>, citing Laieuski\u2019s friend and former colleague <strong>Yauhen Pylchanka<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Laeuski was found guilty under articles on \u201cfacilitating extremist activities\u201d and \u201cdiscrediting Belarus.\u201d The charges were based on the lawyer\u2019s interviews with independent Belarusian media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>In 2020\u20132021, Dzmitry Laeuski defended <strong>Viktar Babaryka<\/strong> and <strong>Maksim Znak<\/strong>. After Babaryka was sentenced, Laeuski was disbarred. The reason was his statement during closing arguments in the case.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, in 2011\u20132012, Laeuski represented human rights defender <strong>Ales Bialiatski<\/strong>.
