One of the Baltic states was identified as a possible target.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/08\/26\/cia-russia-nato-moscow-ratcliffe-01051848\">Politico<\/a> published similar information, citing two sources and a British official.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cHis meeting was primarily to warn Russia against any escalatory action against the Baltic states,\u201d<\/i> one of the publication&#8217;s sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Support for Iran was another topic discussed at the meeting. Ratcliffe sought to persuade Moscow to reduce its support.<\/p>\n<p>The Kremlin did not disclose details of the talks. Russian presidential spokesman <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/peskov-says-cia-chief-s-visit-to-moscow-was-aimed-at-establishing-security-contacts\"><strong>Dmitry Peskov<\/strong><\/a> said on Wednesday that the contacts took place through intelligence channels and that there had been no meeting with Putin.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. President <strong>Donald Trump<\/strong> called the visit \u201csemi-routine\u201d but acknowledged that it was aimed at ending the war.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cI hate to disappoint people.
