European Commission President <b>Ursula von der Leyen<\/b> made the announcement. European Council President <b>Ant\u00f3nio Costa<\/b> arrived in the Ukrainian capital today.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cOn Ukraine\u2019s Independence Day, Europe is demonstrating its unwavering and concrete support. Today, we approved \u20ac6.1 billion for air and missile defense systems, missiles, ammunition and radars that Ukraine urgently needs.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>As Russian attacks intensify, we are stepping up our efforts to help Ukraine protect its people and defend its airspace. Europe stands with Ukraine, and we will provide it with everything it needs whenever required\u201d, the Commission president said.<\/p>\n<p>The tranche is part of a \u20ac90 billion loan for Ukraine.
