The work, translated into Polish by <strong>Joanna Bernatowicz<\/strong>, will be available in Poland from Sept. 9, while an official presentation of the edition will take place in Warsaw on Sept. 15.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cFor me, this is a great joy and honor,\u201d<\/i> Alhierd Bacharevi\u010d wrote on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/alhierd.bacharevic\">social media<\/a>, adding that the world of \u201cDogs\u201d now exists in Belarusian, German, Russian and Polish. Work is also underway on Norwegian and Danish translations of the novel.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-568683 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/psy-europy.webp\" alt=\"\" width=\"709\" height=\"1016\" srcset=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/psy-europy.webp 709w, https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/psy-europy-209x300.webp 209w, https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/psy-europy-279x400.webp 279w, https:\/\/reform.news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/psy-europy-558x800.webp 558w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 100vw, 709px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The visual concept for the book was created by the same team that worked on its German edition.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cDogs of Europe\u201d combines the conventions of crime fiction, fairy tale, realist novel, dystopia and parable. Bacharevi\u010d employs distinctive humor, paradox and an ability to portray ordinary people. The starting point is the creation of Balbuta, an artificial language that serves as a form of freedom on paper, because there is no real freedom,\u201d<\/i> the publisher\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.empik.com\/psy-europy-bacharewicz-alhierd,p1753922441,ksiazka-p?fbclid=IwY2xjawTv6GRwZG9mBWV4dG4DYWVtAjEwAGJyaWQRMXpRR2JMMkdQdUJvQzBJWklzcnRjBmFwcF9pZBAyMjIwMzkxNzg4MjAwODkyAAEecMik5-3Okf8djGgMUEwGGtlRSBD40pXWgKq3hiNC-36tJuVmo6A6ZQ-gfoQ_aem_BNLGV5S2hnMplxBxCB_tRA#ProductDescription\">description<\/a> of the work says.<\/p>\n<p>The description also mentions the novel\u2019s <i>\u201cextremist\u201d<\/i> status and the forced exile of the Belarusian writer:<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cAt the end of 2020, after taking part in mass protests and publishing an essay on Belarusian fascism, Alhierd Bacharevi\u010d emigrated from the country, lived in Austria and Switzerland, and then settled in Berlin. In 2022, Bacharevi\u010d\u2019s books were declared \u2018extremist\u2019 and banned in Belarus, while the print run of \u2018Dogs of Europe\u2019 was destroyed. However, the writer\u2019s opus magnum had already achieved cult novel status.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Wydawnictwo Literackie also recalls the book\u2019s awards, in particular the Leipzig Book Award for European Understanding in 2025, and quotes reviews of the work in major international media.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian described the novel as follows: <i>\u201cA dystopian political thriller, one of the most important works ever published in Belarus.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The publication of \u201cDogs of Europe\u201d by Krakow-based Wydawnictwo Literackie, which has existed since 1953, marks the Belarusian author\u2019s entry into the highest ranks of European publishing.
