At least three people were killed and another 20 injured in Russian strikes on Ukraine overnight on Aug. 16 and in the morning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/strong> reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n

According to him, six people were injured in Kyiv and the surrounding region, while two people were killed and another 14 injured in Kryvyi Rih. In Sumy, one person was killed in a Russian drone strike. Over the past week, Russian forces have struck 13 regions of Ukraine, launching more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 aerial bombs and 62 missiles. Zelenskyy once again stressed that Ukraine needs additional air defense systems.<\/p>\n

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported<\/a> that rescuers in Kyiv had extinguished all fires caused by the overnight attack. Debris removal and the dousing of structures are continuing in the Obolonskyi and Holosiivskyi districts.<\/p>\n

In Kryvyi Rih, an industrial enterprise was struck overnight, killing one person and injuring 13 others. A fire broke out in the city. Another person was injured in the Nikopol district of the Dnipropetrovsk region, where infrastructure, an enterprise, private houses and apartment buildings were damaged.<\/p>\n

In Sumy, a drone struck<\/a> a civilian vehicle in the central part of the city late in the evening. The vehicle caught fire, killing one person and injuring another.<\/p>\n

In Sloviansk, Russian aircraft struck a private residential area with high-explosive aerial bombs. Twenty-two private houses were damaged, and a residential building and an outbuilding caught fire. No casualties were reported.<\/p>\n

According to data<\/a> from the Ukrainian Air Force, Russia attacked Kyiv, Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih overnight on Aug. 16 with Oniks anti-ship missiles, Iskander-M, S-400 and KN-23 ballistic missiles, Kh-59\/69 guided air-launched missiles, as well as 106 attack drones.<\/p>\n

The main areas targeted were the Kyiv, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions. According to preliminary data, by 8 a.m., Ukrainian air defenses had shot down or suppressed three Kh-59\/69 missiles and 85 drones of various types. Hits were recorded at 13 locations, while debris from downed targets fell at three locations.<\/p>\n
