The underground passage had been dug at a depth of about 1.5 metres. The section on Lithuanian territory is about 4 metres long. The tunnel was reinforced with boards and logs, while the entrance on the Belarusian side was covered with camouflage fabric.<\/p>\n<p>Border guards believe the tunnel was being prepared for smuggling migrants into Lithuania.<\/p>\n<p>The tunnel was filled in with earth. A pre-trial investigation has been launched, the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service <a href=\"https:\/\/vsat.lrv.lt\/lt\/naujienos\/varenos-pasienieciai-aptiko-jau-trecia-is-baltarusijos-vedanti-tuneli-foto-B2v\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>This is already the third <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/lithuanian-border-guards-discover-another-tunnel-on-the-border-with-belarus\">underground tunnel<\/a> on the border with Belarus <a href=\"https:\/\/reform.news\/en\/tunnel-found-again-on-the-lithuanian-belarusian-border\">discovered<\/a> by Lithuanian border guards in recent weeks.
